BEEE Seminar - A Robust Decision-Making Tool for Selecting Chiller Retrofits

Highlight: 
In response to the growing emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability, various initiatives have been introduced to encourage the retrofitting of existing chiller plants. However, there remains a lack of standardized decision-making criteria specifically for evaluating chiller plants. This gap hinders the ability of building practitioners and stakeholders to make informed decisions regarding chiller upgrades or replacements. To address this critical need, a joint research project, supported by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Building Services Operation and Maintenance Executives Society (BSOMES), was initiated to develop a credible tool that incorporates relevant criteria for making retrofitting decisions for chiller plants.
In this seminar, the project's Principal Investigator, Ir Prof Joseph Lai, will share the research process and findings, including the identification and categorization of applicable performance indicators, the shortlisting of key performance indicators (KPls), the consolidation of the KPls into the envisaged decision-making tool, and the validation of this tool.

Speaker: Ir Prof. Joseph Lai 
With a first-class honours degree in building services engineering, a master degree in environmental management and a PhD in facilities management plus over a decade of industry experience, Ir Prof Joseph Lai combines professional and academic roles as a scholar. Currently a Professor of the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering of PolyU, Ir Prof Lai has received multiple recognitions including the Faculty Teaching Excellence Award, the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Academic Programme Development, and the International Facility Management Association’s Distinguished Educator Award. He is Co-Editor of the Facilities journal, Associate Editor of the Smart and Sustainable Built Environment journal and on the Editorial Advisory Board of several other journals. 
As Academic Advisor (Asia) for the IFMA Foundation, Ir Prof Lai also sits on professional institutions’ committees, reviews research funding applications, chairs programme accreditations, and provides seminars, training, consultancy and keynote speeches in his specialist areas. He is a Fellow Member of BSOMES, CIBSE, HKIE and HKIFM.

If no confirmation e-mail is received by that time, the application will be considered unsuccessful. Participants will receive a 1.5-hour CPD ecertificate via e-mail within one month after the seminar. 
This seminar is recognized under the CPD Scheme of the Property Management Services Authority as an Official activity. Property Management Practitioner licensee may earn CPD hours through participating in this seminar.
