Joint Technical Seminar on Waste Heat Power Regeneration by ORC technology

Details:
Date: 21 January 2022 (Friday)
Time: 18:45 - 20:00 (Registration at 18:30)
Venue: Online Seminar via Zoom

Programme Highlight:
Power generation by Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology is similar to a traditional steam turbine, but with a single, crucial difference. Instead of using water vapor, the ORC system vaporizes a high-molecular-mass organic fluid. Such technology has many possible applications, and counts more than 2.7 GW of installed capacity and 698 identified power plants worldwide. In recent years, ORC has become the prime workhorse when low temperature waste heat is recovered for power generation. It can be applied to heat and power plants or to industrial and farming processes such as organic products fermentation, hot exhausts from furnaces, marine diesel engines, and condenser of a power cycle.
In this seminar, the ORC principles and real-life applications will be illustrated. Benefits and difficulties during design / construction stages will be also discussed.

Speaker:
Ir KF Chan
Southa Engineering Limited

Ir Chan was trained as a building services engineer in a consultant firm. He then joined the Southa Group of Companies as a contractor carrying out design and hands-on testing & commissioning in projects ranging from low temperature application to elevated temperature combustion. Over the years, he promoted a number of environmental initiatives. In recent years, KF proactively implements AI, IoT, robotics and cloud solutions not only in energy performance but also in serving users in disabled hostels.
Besides full-time salaried employment at Southa, KF enjoys his services in charity and education work, including teaching as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong.
