Mechanical vibration and vibration-induced noise are common sources of occupant complaints in all types of buildings. Most of this vibration is caused by reciprocation motion from HVAC equipment. This presentation will show the appropriate solutions and systems to solve these common problems.
Based on the data published in the ASHRAE Handbook, we will look at types of isolators, the correct isolator deflection, based on equipment and floor span as well as the recommended type of base. We will look at successful case studies and some failures due to the wrong selection of isolation system. We will touch on terms such as Isolation Efficiency, Natural Frequency, Isolator Safety Factor and lateral Spring Stiffness. The presentation will also briefly touch on pipe riser isolation, flexible pipe connectors and Commercial Airflow Attenuation.

Joerg has over 35 years’ experience in the field of Acoustics and Noise Control and more than 5 years’ experience in vibration isolation. Joerg has worked on project throughout the world with focus on Europe, Asia, North America and the Middle East. He has led pinta (illbruck) acoustic’s operations in the US for 15 years and joined Kinetics Noise Control in 2017.
Joerg has been educated in Management at the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Business and Acoustics and Vibration Control by Hoover & Keith, Houston, TX and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI.
Joerg has been an ASHRAE member since 2017 and Kinetics Noise Control Inc. USA is established since 1958 and joined ASHRAE while formed in 1959. The manufacturing of spring isolator is strictly followed The Vibration Isolation and Seismic Control Manufacturers Association (VISCMA) to control the quality assurance.
1.5-hour CPD certificate will be provided. Participants will receive an electronic copy of CPD attendance certificate after 14 days of the event.
