Programme Outline:
The new biosafety level-3 laboratory (BSL-3-Lab) was built in the existing Public Health Laboratory Centre which is the first ever BSL-3-Lab of Department of Health in Hong Kong.
The new BSL-3 Laboratory is compiled to Australian Standard AS/NZ2243.3:2010 including high airtightness containment level and BS system reliability. To achieve the required containment level, the BSL-3 laboratory is designed and constructed to achieve extremely high containment airtightness with low leakage rate and maintain a 24x7 -60Pa pressure differential between the laboratory and surrounding area. BS system was designed for 24x7 operation and high reliability level to response to failure scenarios in order to maintain the bio-safety level according to the standard.
